Julia
When Julia’s giving a reading, one of her trance readings, she feels a little bit not like herself, but it’s a really calm feeling. Sometimes she feels like it’s coming from somewhere else, coming through her. She’ll say certain things that sound so wise. Not totally like the way she’s operating in her own life, but she’ll take those words coming through! That’s good stuff. And she’s gotten comfortable with just not being able to explain it. Like accepting what it is and not trying to analyze it.
She definitely thinks a lot in metaphors, naturally, and uses a lot of figurative language when she’s talking. And that helps when you want to be a psychic. And images come to her. It’s like, I see you in a tennis game in this relationship. And then she can kind of go off that image and really get into what it means. Like, the ball just keeps dit-dit-dit and nobody wants to drop the ball, or whatever. Saying, You guys just keep hitting the ball back and forth, and back and forth, but there’s no real movement. And then she has to explain that. Because it’s not like every tennis game means the same thing. If she sees a tennis game in your space, it might mean something totally different than the tennis game she sees in someone else’s space. So she uses all these metaphors in readings, tons. And it usually works out. It makes sense to people.

One thing they would drill into you at Berkeley Psychic Institute was, don’t give advice. You’re not supposed to give advice. Just read it, like you’re reading a book. Like you’re detached. But it’s pretty hard not to give advice, it’s pretty hard. And actually she does give advice. Most of her advice is practical, though. She thinks she puts a lot of earthy, really grounded shit in her readings. She’s not airy-fairy, not out there. She’s talking about real life. She does a lot of relationship-type stuff. Or a job, like how the energy at the job is affecting you. How do we make this workable? She’s not going to blow smoke. She can’t even always say it came from the magical realm. Sometimes it’s just from life experience. And the people who like her readings like that.
But she always tells her clients, You better take what I say with a grain of salt. Seriously, she’s not even kidding. She’ll just tell them, Based on today, this is what I see. Because she doesn’t know for sure. And she could be wrong. There’s always, for her, an element of I could be totally off. She doesn’t know! And the whole thing of not really knowing, it gets worse as she gets older. There’s always a part of her that’s thinking, This is bullshit. Because if you really try to think it out, it’s not going to make sense. And that analytical part of your brain will reject it. It’s not logical.
