Cheyanne
(Not sure what Psychic Telephone is all about? Check out our first and second posts for an introduction to the project.)
The way Cheyanne looks at it, she’s the middleman for clients, the in-between, and beyond the veil are these others. And with her public business, her public clientele, she has the tools now to present messages in a way that clients can hear it and not feel defensive, or scared. She tries to find solutions even in the chaos. She doesn’t sugarcoat, but she doesn’t feel the need to open up wounds in terms of the darker spirits coming in. She’s not here to do anything necessarily besides bring some solace and comfort.
She’s seen that some people in this work, they are all into the dark and gloomy, the demons and all that. And she thinks there’s a place for everybody. But it does feel problematic to her when somebody’s too much in the dark, or too much in the light. Because that’s not realistic. For her it’s about finding that gray space, because she doesn’t think anything’s black or white. So people who are like, The demons are here!—to her that’s a problem. Like really, the demons are going to go over to Joe’s house just because he’s playing poker? They’ve got better things to do.

The way she works now, so high-volume, people are always like, Aren’t you scared of demons coming through? Well, no, because she relies on help to work at this volume. She has her body keepers, her gatekeepers, her angels, her guards. She’s really big on ancestor magic, has like six altars at her house—an ancestor altar, altars to deities—and she honors the Wiccan Wheel of the Year. She’s big into altar work because she feels it’s a meeting place for the living and the dead. But she’s not going to ask her ancestors to help with her medium work. To ask Grandma Esther to come do like five hours a day of readings with her—why would she want to do that? Grandma’s going to want to keep the home safe and things grandmas like to do.
So she has Hecate—the goddess of witches, the goddess of crossroads. She’s from Greek mythology, right? And she’s known to be seen at night with an army of ghosts behind her. She’s basically the protector of outcasts, very protective of the underdogs. And when Cheyanne became a devotee of Hecate and committed to her, that’s when her medium stuff really amped up. Now when a spirit comes through, she has these layers. The spirit has to go through Hecate and all of them. And if it’s here with ill intent, or with negativity that’s going to be problematic, it doesn’t get through the gate, the spiritual gate. That’s how she can work at a high volume. She’s not taking it all on as hers.
Still, everyone’s always like, How are you not exhausted? And she thinks it’s because she took her time, accumulating the tools she needed to be able to do what she does now. Taking classes, reading books. Realizing how to empower herself energetically. She also worked personally with a psychic medium on a public-access TV show. She didn’t even think about it at the time, but it started adding up. And about eight years ago, in Seattle, she did a program about having boundaries with the dead. That one was a game changer. So you’re not just running around reckless and like, There’s dead people everywhere! Of course there are. Like, hello. But if you have boundaries, you’re more controlled with it. You don’t walk around like an open vessel.
This work that she does is just mind-bending to her sometimes. Knowing that Spirit is so real. The gist of her service is to help folks on their spiritual path. And she’ll leave work teary because she feels so much joy in being able to help others see that there is more than just this.
